Purpose & Intent
Entertainment & Enterprise
As mentioned on the previous page, in 1971 there were four criteria in searching and selecting 125 Moose
Hill Parkway. A subtext to this criteria was "Entertainment" and "Enterprise," of which both set
the "master-strokes" of remodeling and new construction.
Entertainment led to the
build-out of the entire lower level as well as outside decks, including...
- A large family room, 22' x 38'
- A guest or third bedrooom of size equal to the master bedroom
- A full bath of size equal to the main full bath
- A snack / entertainment or prep kitchen including washer / dryer
- A small office
- A large, walk-out deck*, 18'x25', accessible from livingroom slider
- A medium walk-out deck*, 8'x14, accessible from casual dining / upper office
- Exterior lighting... and other amenities.
* Only the decks need major repairs after over 30 years
of rugged service considering that the vertical grain spruce planking is not pressure-treated.
Enterprise led to the construction
of a modest horse stable for breeding and selling horses which including the construction of
- A barn* with 60 amp electrical service, water and 4" reinforced concrete floors**
- Clearing two corrals,
- Grading and resurfacing a cantering track around the barn and corrals
- Grading and cantering circle in the pine knoll in front of the house
- Establishing a 1/3 mile legging-up course over the rolling parts of the terrain
- Clearing cooling-out areas of which one was design to accommodate an electric horse-walker
- Adding more lights to allow evening outdoors work and riding
* Presently, the barn requires roof repairs.
** The reinforced concrete floors are in like-new condition
after 20 years service. Originally clay, the floors were dug-out and replaced with reinforced concrete after stabling
carriage horses at Hammersmith Farm in Newport, RI for 3 summers without any leg injury or slipping incident. Also,
if concrete stalls and isles were good enough for the Jackie Kennedy, a respected horsewoman, they were certainly
good enough for 125 MHP. Today, concrete floors with rubber mats have become very popular die to the ease of maintenance
compared with clay.
Currently, there are no horse on the property... but
it can be operation-ready with the mentioned repairs.
